Space management principles
Space is a valuable institutional resource that is managed appropriately, and allocated strategically, to support teaching, research, and service and support activities critical to the mission of the university.
We define space as any owned, leased, or other space where university business activities are conducted. The space needs are great and vary across the university; however, within the diversity of needs for space, there exist several overarching space management principles.
Our space principles establish an effective and efficient use of current and new spaces and renovations.
Principles
- The university owns all institutional spaces and is ultimately responsible for allocating space in a way that is both equitable and optimal.
- Space assignments are dynamic and adjusted as needed to align with the university's strategic priorities and mission.
- Faculties and units are accountable for managing their allocated space. Each year, they will review their space use within the context of the multi-year plan to ensure efficient use.
- The university provides an annual report of all space allocations to faculties and units, ensuring transparency and accountability.
- All space-related changes or requests will be handled through the integrated space management process. This process evaluates needs based on strategic priorities and the university’s mission.
